Moral Instructions – Value Education Programme

According to Indian Culture, the true nature of man is infinite knowledge, strength and bliss. To uncover this inner potential is the ultimate purpose of all human endeavours. Education is the methodical approach towards this uncovering. This methodical approach involves a harmonious blending of head, heart and hands, i.e., head that conceives, heart that feels and hands that work. Such an education can mould a man into an ideal person with strong character which is the need of the hour. Swami Vivekananda calls this education as Man-making education.

If a man continuously hears bad words, thinks bad thoughts, does bad actions, his mind will be full of bad impressions; and they will influence his thought and work without his being conscious of the fact. He will be like a machine in the hands of his impressions, and they will force him to do evil, and that man will be a bad man; he cannot help it. Similarly, if a man thinks good thoughts and does good works, the sum total of these impressions will be good, and they, in a similar manner, will force him to do good, even in spite of himself. When such is the case, a man’s good character is said to be established.

It is in this context, the Moral Instructions are important and provide proper background and mental make-up for children to inculcate good character. Introducing school children to social, moral and spiritual values through Moral Instructions is a critical activity in nation building. In Ramakrishna Mission High School, the Monks of the Ramakrishna Order take great personal care to create appropriate environment for the children to get exposed, to internalize and to assimilate the Value System which is necessary to face the challenges of life, to recognise and utilise every opportunity in life effectively for all-round growth and to become a good citizen of the country.

The school is following special Value Education Syllabus from LKG to X std. Monks of the Ramakrishna Mission take special classes to students on Value Education. All students of the school get ’Ramakrishna Prabha’, the monthly Telugu magazine of Ramakrishna order. To encourage students to go through the magazine and other moral books – Sri Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature, monthly competitions are conducted based on these books and prizes are distributed.
